Finding Meetings during COVID-19
At the August 14, 2021 meeting of Central Florida Intergroup, we were excited to unveil our new “under construction” webpage at https://www.oacfi.org. One of the major improvements of our new webpage is the availability of an updated and detailed meeting list. Meetings are coded according to type of meeting (face-to-face, hybrid, online, etc.) As users click on the meeting, it opens to reveal details about the type of meeting (speaker, literature, etc.), contact information, and sometimes even a copy of the format used by that meeting.
While our new webpage capabilities are exciting, we offer a word of caution. As people in the intergroup area were being vaccinated against Covid-19 and many host sites welcomed our return, some meetings which had been exclusively online since March 2020 began to meet again face-to-face with some offering option of the inclusion of Zoom attendees making them temporarily hybrid meetings. As of this writing, the “Delta variant” is creating a resurgence of COVID-19 around the world and in our state. As this results in some of our meetings being in flux between in person and online, it is strongly suggested that new or infrequent attendees check with the group contact on meeting status before heading out. Should you need to make changes to the meeting list portion of the oacfi webpage, please send them to newsletter@oacfi.org. Each meeting is responsible for making needed changes on the oa.org website.
It should also be noted that the current resurgence in Covid-19 has resulted in the decision of the Overeaters Anonymous Board of Trustees to cancel the World Service Convention scheduled to be held in Orlando on August 26-28th. We are pleased to have been told that Orlando has been selected as the host site for the 2025 Convention. Many volunteers from our intergroup will be needed to make this worldwide celebration a success. Please contact the intergroup chair (chair@oacfi.org) if you are able to help with the planning.
Just as we did in March of 2020 as the nation began to lockdown, we continue to encourage our groups and members to honor their own and each other’s comfort level with vaccines, masks and social distancing. As the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous reminds us, “love and tolerance is our code.”
NOTE: For the foreseeable future, Central Florida Intergroup will continue to meet on Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/699026950, Password: 768958. All members are welcome
